Trick or Treating at School
John Curtis's class went trick or treating today. The parents make a big semi circle in the gym and the kids come by in their costumes to trick or treat. Last year it took forever so I decided not to cancel my tutoring classes. Instead Taylor was going to run up there and take pictures of him. We were told his class was last so I told Taylor to get there around 10. Unfortunately, they changed the order at the last minute and his class went first. Taylor missed the whole thing. The disappointing thing to me was that I could have stayed for a few minutes and watched it and still made it to work on time. Oh well. It's hard for me to get used to not being at everything.
Thankfully my sweet friend Roxanne took some pictures of John Curtis for me. As you can see, an unfortunate result of Daddy not being there was that his eyes are on upside down.

A Halloween Storytime
Twice a month John Curtis and I go to story time at the public library. Today the kids got to wear their costumes. It was a good practice run for Halloween and showed us some ways his costume can be improved.
This is John Curtis waiting by the car to take a picture with Connor.
This is John Curtis running away in fear when he saw Connor in his skeleton mask. He wouldn't go near him until he took it off.
As you can see our box is leaning a little causing our little guy to be uneven. We're working on it.
The costume, of course, had to come off since he can't do anything in it except walk. They got to throw leaves in the air with a parachute.
This picture was taken in the dark. They were pretending to be ghosts. Scary!
Looking through his telescope like a pirate.
These drums were super loud. I'm sure all of the library patrons without children appreciated this.

Pumpkin Day!
2006
2007

2009
This year we did a more low key Pumpkin Day than we did last year. The costumes still weren't finished so they were priority. Plus, Taylor had a wedding so he left late in the afternoon and was gone all evening. All that to say, we kind of cheated this year and bought a "fake" pumpkin at Hobby Lobby. It was SO much easier. Maybe we'll do a real one on Halloween. Maybe not. Most of what we did had to do with food, so my kids are eating in most of the pictures :)
Pumpkin Pancakes
Pumpkin Sandwiches
Looks good!
Carving the fake pumpkin. No gooey mess!
Helping Mom make pumpkin cupcakes
Pumpkin Pasta dinner. Grammy even sent special Halloween shaped pasta in a care package this year.
Enjoying the pumpkin cupcakes.
Ending the day watching It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

Another Pumpkin Patch Field Trip
This time it was John Curtis's turn to go to the pumpkin patch with his class. He doesn't usually go on Fridays, but Taylor took him up there so he could enjoy it with his friends.

Fall Photo Shoot
On Tuesday John Curtis and I met our friends Carey, Connor, and Carter at a local market where they sell all different kinds of pumpkins and beautiful mums among other things. I bought some pecans, little pumpkins, and some local honey that is supposed to help with our horrible allergies. Really though, it was just an excuse to take some pictures. As you can tell in several of the pictures, John Curtis has really perfected his cheesy smile.

Sea World in the Fall
Much to Taylor's dismay, I thought it would be a good idea to use our Sea World passes yet again to go check out their Halloween festivities. So we made the trek there and back on Saturday. It was a long day, but the kids had a great time.
Dolphin Cove is always our first stop. The dolphins were especially active that morning.
Next we like to tour the aquarium.
They had a bunch of different houses set up for trick or treating later that night. We couldn't stay that late and the kids didn't know anything about it so they just thought they were great spots to take pictures.
Sophie loves the Shamu Express.
Happy Harbor was decorated in pirate skeletons for Halloween. I'm very surprised Sophie held his hand. JC wouldn't go near them.
Pumpkin fish!
More rides.
The highlight of the day was definitely the Count Dracula Sesame Street show.
They also had an exhibit where you walk through to see a lot of underwater characters. Sophie's favorite was this "beautiful" mermaid. We had to go through twice just to see her. I thought she was a little scary in her blue lipstick.
